Last year was a milestone year for Fig! In addition to heavy-hitting campaigns like Pillars of Eternity II and Phoenix Point, we also saw our first games come to market, and paid out our first investor returns. From the very beginning, a core part of our vision has been to bring gamers, investors and developers together to support and continue to promote games even after their crowdfunding campaigns succeed. Additionally, we have sought to provide more transparency to video game publishing and give the community the opportunity to share in the success of the projects they support. As part of that process, we are excited to release our investment returns information through December 31, 2017.

We create Fig Game Shares for each game that we co-publish, which investors can purchase during the campaign. These Fig Game Shares generate returns based on our revenue from the associated game. When we get revenue from sales of the game or other sources including buyouts, investors earn returns!

An investor who put the same amount into each of the above Fig Game Shares would have generated a return of 159% (a 59% return on investment) as of December 31, 2017 with an average holding period of less than one year. Three out of our four released games have generated returns better than breakeven for investors.

Overall, we are very happy with the quality and commercial performance of our games in 2017. In particular, our first released game, Kingdoms and Castles, was a smash hit and was received enthusiastically by the community. It was also a success for our investors, who tripled their initial investment within a few months of the game’s launch. Solstice Chronicles: MIA was also well received and has provided investors with a positive overall return so far, with up to two years of revenue sharing left. While Trackless has yet to generate significant returns, it received critical acclaim from numerous outlets including PC Gamer and IGN. The game will continue to generate revenue for us and for Fig Game Share holders, and we will continue to work closely with the developer to promote future sales, partnerships, and updated content.

In addition to funding and promotional support, we believe that trust is a fundamental pillar of a healthy crowdfunding ecosystem. Unlike other crowdfunding platforms, we also act as a co-publisher for games funded on our site. This helps provide backers and investors with confidence that developers will have access to the resources they need and will be kept accountable. All of the Fig games that were launched in 2017 were released less than a year after their successful Fig campaigns and continued to receive support after launch.

Fig is democratizing video game publishing by inviting the community to financially support the development and release of games they love. Fans can back a game’s campaign on Fig to get exclusive rewards or invest in Fig Game Shares to earn returns based on game sales. Fig Game Shares are available to accredited investors, and to non-accredited investors in accordance with the SEC’s Regulation A+ (JOBS Act). Since our inception, Fig has had four of the top 10 most funded video game campaigns: Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire ($4.4M), Psychonauts 2 ($3.8M), Wasteland 3 ($3.1M) and Phoenix Point ($766K).

There are many more exceptional Fig campaigns and game launches coming up in 2018. Obsidian’s follow up to their Game of the Year title, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, will release this spring, and we also expect to see a dozen other releases this year, including Make Sail, Flash Point and Solo in Q2, and Julian Gollop’s Phoenix Point towards the end of the year. We can’t wait to bring gamers even more great games and continue democratizing publishing! For more information on our current games and investment offerings, check out our current campaigns.
